I really hope some of you folks do seed for a long time because as usual I'm downloading at approximately 10kb/s, but somehow Im uploading at 26kb/s. I really don't understand how that works.

Can't believe some people got all of this in a couple of hours today - definitive proof perhaps that even 8mb ADSL in the UK is rubbish!

If I get the time (big if right now, getting ready to move, start a new job, etc.) and there's demand for it, I may try to give this a proper menu and chapter cuts, then either upload the finished product or send it to someone with a better connection to seed. Is this something any of you would be interested in?

Not only that, but this DVD wouldn't meet Dime's quality standards, since it's lossy.

The DQA vers. was a bit better sounding. On this one there's a total lack of bass and the overall sound is too "flat", but with some eq. tuning it sounds fine over my new Klipsch Speakers :-)))

But isn't this Show great?! I watched it twice yesterday and it's amazing to see this great concert in such a fantastic quality. (Brian's look in his face during his Solo in STL is priceless) Also I'm in love with Car is outstanding, beautiefull Piano work from Freddie!

Chile played very well, but there are a few players in Chile's team that are very selfish, it's hard for them to pass the ball immediately, but a great result for us!

A lossless single-sided DVD cannot exceed 60 minutes, and the audio must be PCM (not AC3). If it's longer than 60 minutes, that means you're putting more footage onto the DVD but compromising quality. So... technically, this could actually be a bit better quality if it was stretched over two DVDs. :)

If this DVD was put on Dime, within hours the torrent would be deleted, even though it's quite possibly the greatest Queen DVD ever... they wouldn't care.

Regards Dimes' policy.
That's probably the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard - who makes this rubbish up?

There are plenty of official DVDs on the merketplace that use ac3 sound and not PCM, and have programme content that lasts longer than 60 minutes.
Dime's policy would suggest that (were official items allowed on their site), they'd filter out any that use ac3 sound????

That's even more stupid than removing 3 songs from an unreleased unnofficial concert because those 3 songs were released officially on a compilation.

Welcome to the wonderful, restricting world that is Dime. I'd like to consider myself as someone with quality standards, but sometimes they just take these things way too far. However, in this case, they're right. Official DVDs that exceed 60 minutes are double-sided. Ever noticed the brief pause half-way through? For instance, on the Queen Wembley DVD at the beginning of the guitar solo. That's when the laser is moving to the other side of the disc.. :)

Where do you get your info regarding DVDs at DIME from? I never read anything like that in their Wiki. I'm sure, there's no technical reason for rejecting or banning this video. But the "official" songs wouldn't be allowed, of course.

While I am writing this, the DVD is playing – and it's indeed a fantastic upgrade! Thanks again!

I'm not sure if they explicitly write their DVD policies on their wiki, but I've seen many DVDs pulled because they're a single-sided disc over an hour long.

Just search Dime for DVDs... if it's a single disc, it's an hour or less. If it's longer, it's spread over two discs. Except for this one:

http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=153120

Be watching it... a mod will see it soon, and pull it.

Guys, I don't want to argue, but there are plenty of single sided DVDs on the market that exceed 60 minutes.
Depends what it is, but I've loads of TV series box sets that use a single sided, single layer disc to put the last 2 (50 minute) episodes on.

Now I'm in the UK - so whether they do it differently in the USA I don't know.

I don't want to argue, either. I'm all for lossless audio, but I have yet to notice the difference in picture quality between 60 minute and 120 minute single-sided DVDs... so we're really on the same page!

But upon proper scrutiny, I'm sure there is a difference.

Ahhhh....that could be because standalones ,many as there are ,can do different things depending on the brand & the money you paid out Bob.
& @Freddie lives....i bet the audio is not PCM

Some SA's will record top bit rate video & PCM audio for 1 hour and just compress the audio to AC3/mp2 for 2 hours+ leaving no picture difference.
Others will drop the video to Half D resolution(576x352 from 720x576)-PAL to keep the PCM or keep a high vid rate for 2 hours. That's virtually a CVCD ,a China disc ,a Super Super VCD for want of a better term
Others go a different way....you get the idea.

THIS video

It started life 100% guaranteed as an NTSC recording.
With that knowledge you can work out that at least 1 re-encoding took place.
Those lines are interlace lines similar to what you get on Rockpalast broadcasts..They should be there ..so if they are not there now,its been re-encoded again somewhere.(now we're talking at least 2)
Those black speckle dashes are a combination of wrong contrast & gamma levels usually occuring where someone has re-encoded to make the image outlines sharper and saying fuck it to the rest. But it can also be from a many generation loss copies done with poor cheap equipment and shitty cabling allowing interference(now its 3 re-encs but could possibly still be 2 as it may of been done at the same time)
Then there are the generation copies that will also lose you its clarity from copy to copy.

The audio

We wont really know because most QZ people just say "it has sound" if you see what i mean.
No records of anything about anything...look at the linage for this.Basically saying a video with sound from a VHS.
I say that about the audio because all could of been done to the video and then the audio put back on last thing.Unlikely though.
I would highly suspect that this audio is a bit squelchy under spectrum scutinization.
If it had been transfered in HQ 1 hour mode it would be in PCM which at least would of kept it lossless from that point as it would only uncompress the audio and not convert again to whatever.

To Everyone

So now you have a rough knowledge that at least 2/3 better versions of this exist.1stly it must be in NTSC.
Now you can hunt for that/those whilst sharing this, but WITH FULL SERVICE HISTORY and then when you find another version you will be able to tell the difference by factual txt info without even seeing the picture.
See how easy it can be??

I know of this version.........IMO its crap like the others ..in a different way though.
Wheres the happy medium of both versions and the lower gen copies???Thats what i would like to know ....thats the gemstone line & 100% for sure ,they are out there.Common sense tells you that!! It also says its being hoarded!!

Here's something general

Be a bit real when judging quality people...dont get overwhelmed because its your band and you havn't seen this show before glazed viewing judging.
Look at it as VIDEO.
Not just this show ,but would you say it was excellent if you had just hired it out from blockbusters?I think not.
So grade video like that as a rule of thumb +/-.
10 a true hollywood DVD ,9 a shop bought VHS ..8 a VHS TV recording master etc.
So a VCD is hardly going to be excellent is it?Nor a many gen VHS...Get me ;)Be neutral
Judge the audio seperatly
Then you know if your getting skunk or solid...lol

PS: Heres something to stop you looking a bit silly and then you can laugh at everyone else.

SCREENSHOTS.......you are all downloading them.
At any point(be sensible),stop downloading and play what you have in VLC player.
Those without VLC player...change the extention

Good read that 928.

I've got a couple more vids I would like to upload in the future. All are impovements to what I've seen.

Rather than use a stand alone recorder what software/hardware can you recommend to maintain quality?

Thanks.

928 - again one of your "everybody except me is an idiot" posts ? I fully understand what you are trying to say, but I don't like the way you are saying it. The stuff you want to say can be said or written in a much more polite way.

To all - I have a feeling that this is a film > NTSC > PAL conversion, not only NTSC > PAL. The video looks like it was telecined, then IVTC'd and then converted to interlaced PAL, but the film origin is only a theory. Just look at the blended fields, a common result of a bad NTSC > PAL conversion. Also I think it was shot in 16:9, just watch how "squeezed" the left border is.
BUT ... And Now the big BUT comes ... These artefacts are ALSO on ALL OFFICIAL RELEASED PARTS of this concert, so I don't think you're gonna find a better version of this concert !!!
Even the version QP has is the same "crap" as 928 called it, therefore I see no reason for any critiscs to pow wow .

I don't know about dime rules, but those guys look like a bunch of idiots to me. If they allowed officially released material to be shared there, 80% of official DVDs wouldn't be allowed there.

Lossy DVD - I don't know who invented this term, but it's complete bullshit. EVERY DVD HAS LOSSY VIDEO ! EVERY ! Because the DVD-Video format uses mpeg-2 compresion, which is lossy ! Only the audio track can be lossless, but LPCM audio is usually used only on concert DVDs, because it's approx. 1.5 GB for 2 hours. If you take in mind, that a single-sided, single-layered DVD can contain just 4.3 GB of data, including the video track(s), the audio track(s), the menus, the bonus features ...
and you take in mind how expensive dual-layer DVDs are, you will understand, why LPCM is rarely used.

Pow Wow - thank you (again) for sharing this with us. I personally do my VHS captures with my DVD recorder, but since it can't record LPCM audio, I usuaaly do a separate audio-only capture with my soundcard and then synchonise it in Cool Edit Pro.
But if you want to know how the "experts" do it, try to read this : http://www.doom9.org/capture/start.html

Did i tell you the probable history of it regardless of who fuckin' owned, upped or whatever it...yes

WAAAAAAAAAAAAnker

We all know about mpeg2 also being lossy...i explained that in a different post & thread a while back.

@Pow wow.
To save going through all the pros & cons of capture cards ,TBC's(Time Base Correctors) and a mountain of specs to do it as that can also bring finance into the equation,a simple set up would be to just find a very good
VCR that has S-VHS output or even a SVHS player and go down the that avenue in the transfer.
But you're doing as best as can with what you have.Just refine it a little. You'll appreciate years later that YOU did.Its not just for m

It is the BEST version of Houston, which we have, and it's because pow wow was so nice and decided to share it. Could he do it better ? Yes, of course, but it doesn't change the fact that he gave us the (yet) best version of Houston. Maybe you could say at least something like "thank you for at least this, but ...".

This wasn't against you, more against the dime guys, sorry if you thought it was, I simply get mad when I see somebody using the term "lossless DVD", it's a complete nonsense, like a "lossless fish" or something.

928, keep your pants on. What the guy is trying to say is simply that it is the tone that makes the music. That's all.

Your idea of videoranking (10=hollywood DVD, etc) is a very good one. I just don't agree with you when you call this DVD crap. This DVD is a great improvement compared with the copies that were circulating on QZ. Since the show on it is a brilliant one as well, we owe powwow and your valentine a big thank you!

Bob is correct, with raw video & audio, when you record it in the highest quality, it is ONLY 60 mins. Almost none of the retail dvds (movies) are in the highest quality possible, or they would have to use a Dual-Layer dvd, alot of them compress it onto a Single layer (4.7gb), perhaps if we want the highest quality we can buy the 720i versions?

It hasnt got song chapters as it was recorded using the recorders pre-sets, which I think are five or ten minute intervals. I just wanted to get it out there in it's rawest form knowing someone would splice it up and create menu's etc.

As we speeak, I'm trying to see if that's doable with what I've got. If it is, I'll let you all know, and would be willing to DVD it up and send the finished product to another QZ'er with a better connection to upload.

Creating a menu'd DVD IS possible - I've already done it.

If you use DVDdecrypter to rip the disc, the audio rips off saying there is no delay.
What you need to do though is add 4 frames onto the beginning of the audio before re-authoring with a menu, otherwise you get a noticable sync problem when viewing.

Some of you may not want my copy though as I converted the ac3 to wav and then back again so the sound is REALLY lossy now - even though you can't actually tell by listening to it.

If anyone wants it, let me know and then I'll just need to figure out how to torrent...

1 you dont add frames...you move the audio
2 I think you meant that YOU can't tell by listening to it......not you etc..
3 why torrent it & pollute the trade pool.

928 is right about not torrent a worst version of this! There are professionals on this board that can Author the video and then torrent or guive others to torrent.

But since this is the best version around (for me at least) and after 928 and Pittrek explanations about lossy videofiles and audio, to consider to make a torrent of a worst version would be of bad taste after all the discussions that took place.

We know that sometimes people just want to show their gratitude with other fans- and we appreciate - but lets try and keep quallity standards in Queenzone when possible.

Because before you know, some newbie comes here and share an Mpeg 1GB. Other newbies say thanks and download, and then the cicle continues!

Take care

So what would make you happy, oh Great Overlord, Keeper of the Lossless DVDs? We've got the best quality video of this concert that's been seen by the common collector's eyes yet, and all you can do is whine about how it's another lossy torrent polluting our collections. Do you have a better version that you're trying desperately to keep under wraps, or are you just one of the many ingrates who don't understand that for those of us who don't have the time, money, or desire to become hardcore traders, this is the best version of one of the few well-preserved shows from the 1970s that we're ever likely to see?

Tell you what, if you're so great and powerful, why don't you do one of three things. Either:

1. Make like me, and try to strip the audio off of this version, attach the DQA audio, sync the whole thing up, and split it into chapters. Maybe for a Great Overlord, Keeper of the Lossless DVDs like yourself, that's easy as pie, but for a relative novice like myself trying to do that with video editing software designed for use with Mommy's video camera, it's not so simple.

2. Come out and tell us all that you have a version with better picture and sound quality and we can't have it because we're lowly underlings, servants of the Great Overlord, Keeper of the Lossless DVDs.

3. Shut up.

I for one am thrilled by this release, and I'm trying to give something back to the Queen community that's given me so much by giving it an audio facelift and slapping proper menus and chapters onto it. Pow wow and YV have given us the best version of this concert we've ever seen from a picture-quality standpoint. All you can do is whine and talk down to us. Either explain the "problems" with this DVD to us like we're adults, without using four-letter words to tell us all how stupid and insignificant we are, or go shout at the wall because there's *another* lossy video out there.

Lossy or not, this is the best picture quality I've seen of this show, and as I can only suspect that the original tape and multitracks are in QP's archives, never to be seen or heard again by anyone except Greg Brooks, I think this is about as good as we're going to get. I, for one, want to thank pow wow and YV for giving us this opportunity, and I'll continue to try and do whatever I can to help the QZ community come up with a "definitive" release of Houston '77. And if I'm pissing in the trade pool by doing so, oh well. Somebody come up with a first-generation tape and the original multitracks, and I'll stop all work I'm doing on this. Until then, I will do what I can to help make this the best Houston release in every way.

Guys,
1) My post was to tell people who want to re-author the disc and add a menu that the sound is out of sync by 4 frames unless you add them at the start - they can be added to the sound file itself or they can be added by moving the sound file along the timeline by 4 frames. Either way 4 frames need to be ADDED to the start, so don't get picky with me!

2) The reason I converted the ac3 to wav and back again was so I could improve the sound quality a little for MY OWN listening purposes.
If anyone wants me to upload the concert with a menu I can easily put the original sound file back on, and then the originals' quality will NOT have been changed.

No - there has to be something wrong - I'm seeding and I see 38 seeders to 34 leeches (out of 74 "visible"). You must be one of the "invisible" ;)

Seriously though, I don't know what client you're using - you might want to try utorrent (www.utorrent.com) which generally works well here. Also, try "updating" the tracker (the actual term changes from client to client).

In other words, there are lots of seeds out there - good luck!

I don't know if I'm invisible because I can't quite figure this stuff out, but I do thank you, Ginger01!

I was using BitTorrent but I did as you suggested and switched to uTorrent. I'm now downloading 10KBs!! Wow. Speedy. :-)

Thanks again.

EDIT - Wow. I'm working at 22 down and 27 up! It's good to know I'm not one of the leeches! :D

Everyone should know, there's something wrong with the audio, and it's very easy to fix it if you have the right software.

Basically, all you need to do is extract the audio and copy one of the channels over the other, to make it mono (and then raise the volume to be twice as loud). Some DVD burners mess up the audio, and create this pseudo-stereo sound. This small edit will make it sound far better!

Let me know what you think!

You have to enter the chapter points manually. You can do this with any DVD authoring software I think. The person who posted the chapter points did most of the work, if they are accurate.

What's the problem with the audio? I played it some on my PC and it sounded fine, but haven't burned it to disc yet as I have to create a menu and chapters.

The other version, with the TV lines, sounds fine on disc.

Here, I've posted a "before" and an "after". Tell me if you hear the difference. All I did was extract the audio with ImTOO DVD Audio Ripper, run GoldWave, copy one channel on top of the other to make it mono, and then doubled the volume. To my ears, the difference is so huge.

About the sound problem: I've checked it and there is a strange phasing error where both channels sound fine played one at a time but together they sort of phase out each other even though they still are great sounding stereo channels. I found a solution: Try and insert 3 ms (that's 3 milliseconds) of silence in the beginning of the right channel and you will find that the full rich stereo sound comes to life again as it should be. The levels are also way to low so use a mild compressor setting and you will have it in great quality all around. //Sincerely yours, Comaman

PS: I used Wave Lab for this editing (after converting the AC3 file to wav of course)...

PS 2: Here's a sample snippet in 44 khz wav.

http://rapidshare.com/files/42060517/queentest.wav

(use Cogent or Level 3 for DL...)

Right OK you lot of unbelievers.....i told you earlier that i was aware of this version & that it was bad.. but in a different way to the other versions "bad".
.......now you find out.

I get struck by lightening again...lol
Some people think i say things for the hell of it.
Right,
OK heres the deal.I shall put my money where my mouth is then.
The video on this, although transfered at SP mode, has not been crushed that heavily.Only the audio was.
So,if someone sends me the lossless soundboard audio of the show i'll define the video & resync the audio for you all.

Good as that is, it's not true stereo. In fact, it's a technique that has been used since the 70s. For example, Brian used it on plenty of his songs, just so that his guitar would be panned left and right (but not in the centre) so it wouldn't get in the way of the vocal.

The video feed from Houston show has always been mono. Even in the documentaries and on Rare Live it was mono sound.

But thanks for your efforts!

I don't have a player on my PC that will play flac,as I deleted my winamp.

I have the NTSC version of this DVD, that has the horizontal lines, and the audio on that is great. Since this one is PAL, I don't think I can use the video of this and the audio of that, as the NTSC one would be longer than this one.

So, I need to do what you suggest. Now:

Do I need to rip the DVD to a single VOB file with Decrypter, and then demux it and keep the video?

Then extract the audio with IMTOO...would the audio file be wav? Is that the same as PCM audio? And if so, wouldn't the size of the audio make the DVD too big for a DVD5? I think the DVD is 3.9 GB, and the AC3 audio is about 300 MBs, wav would be around 700 MBs?

Then run Goldwave you said. I haven't installed it yet, but what would it do? Separate the audio to two tracks? Then copy one and paste it on top of the other? And then how do you double the volume?

I got a chance to watch the NTSC version of this again, and Houston has to be one of the best if not best Queen concerts I have seen.

Thanks again to the uploader.

Yes, but you can re-encode your audio to match the video. In the case that you want to re-sync your NTSC-sourced audio to your PAL video, the easiest way how to do it is to use besweet (also free),
use the -soundtouch parameter with (-r 25000 29970), then open the result in any audio editor and play with it :)

Do I need to rip the DVD to a single VOB file with Decrypter, and then demux it and keep the video?

No need to rip the DVD with DVDDecrypter, since it's not encrypted. Just run PGCDemux (also free), load the correct ifo (I think in this case it's VTS_01_1.IFO) and demux it, this method will save you disc space.

All the programs I've used do an automatic lpcm->wav conversion, or at least you can set them to do so. Of course it will be too big for a DVD5, but you can 1)use a DVD9, 2) shrink it with DVDShrink or 3) split it into 2 DVD5 discs.

Then run Goldwave you said. I haven't installed it yet, but what would it do? Separate the audio to two tracks? Then copy one and paste it on top of the other? And then how do you double the volume?

I don't remember how it can be done in Goldwave, it's a couple of years since I've used it the last time, but CoolEditPro (or Adobe Audition) has a "mix paste" option. So first you copy the right chanel, paste it into an empty mono file, then copy the left chanel, and "mix paste" it into the mono file you've just created, then double the volume of the resulting file.

Perhaps you could download FLAC Frontend, as that program can decode from FLAC to WAV.

Then run Goldwave you said. I haven't installed it yet, but what would it do? Separate the audio to two tracks? Then copy one and paste it on top of the other?

Basically, yeah... but you don't have to separate the tracks. Just copy the left channel, and replace the right with it. But first, be sure you've selected the GoldWave clipboard in the options, as it's a pretty big file. I'm still using version 4.26, so hopefully the new one works the same way, if that's what you're using.

And then how do you double the volume?

There isn't a program that will do a simple conversion, it's a long process and the end result-as I know it-will be LOSSY.

Since this DVD has no menu and wrong chapters, you can convert to NTSC and get decent results if you:

Rip the DVD to a single VOB file with Decrypter

Encode the VOB with TMPGEnc-PAL to PAL, program file, select MPG2 audio, one pass

Then convert to NTSC with Canopus: 23.97 FPS with inverse pulldown, program file-audio and video together, MPG2 audio-I always use 320 kbps, high speed encoding

Last encoding: TMPGEnc again, NTSC to NTSC, program again, but this time select AC3 audio-it will be lossy as hell but will be good to view and hear...

Then author with DVD authoring program.

If I rip the DVD to VOB and demux it, it would give me an AC3 audio file which I cannot decompress. Would Goldwave decompress it?

If not, I may be able to extract the source audio-wav-with Virtualdub...how big a file is the lossless audio in MBs?

If it's too big for a DVD5 I'm right back to square one, I would have to compress the lossless audio to AC3 again.

Burn the DVD as is, in PAL format, and save it in case you can trade someone for it, or later get a player that will play both formats.

As for the conversion, I told you it's long, and complicated. BAsically what you do is change the framerate from 25 FPS-PAL- to 29.97 FPS NTSC.

TMPGEnc is a good encoder, but will NOT do do framerate conversions. Canopus does framerate conversions, but sucks as an encoder. So you have to use both, and encode the file three times if you want good results. I just used that method on a movie, "Outlaw", and it came out great. Almost as good as a retail DVD.

I don't have the tools you recommend here, I use Decrypter to rip the DVD to a single VOB file which I can then demux with Womble. The problem is the audio file is AC3 and I can't decompress it, unless I can extract the source audio with Virtualdub. If then the file is too big for a DVD5, I might can encode the VOB in TMPGEnc, select elementary streams and AC3 audio @320, and author that with the untouched video I demuxed.

@ fanatic125: before trying to do all those conversions, at least TRY to watch it. The standard here in Brazil is PAL-M, but almost everything is also compatible with NTSC, so on the Internet I always look for NTSC DVDs. But I recently downloaded a Franz Ferdinand DVD from Dimeadozen.org, and when the download was nearly done, I read the original post again and noticed it was PAL (not PAL-M, just plain PAL). I thought I had wasted all the time I spent downloading, because the colours would be fucked up or something... But when I tried, everything worked perfectly. So I went back to Dime and downloaded another PAL DVD that I had avoided simply because it was PAL.

How To Make It "Region Free"..., November 25, 2005
By Vladimir Ratner "vratner" (Upstate NY) - See all my reviews

This review is for Philips DVP642 DVD Player. It is the same as DVP642/37 DVD Player. It is also the same as DVP642/37 Code Free DVD Player, or Region Free, or whatever else you want to call it. Philips has ONLY ONE DVP642 model, but it may come with different firmware versions, depending on when and where the player was purchased. It doesn't matter though. I repeat, it is the SAME player. So there is absolutely no need to pay extra dollars for something you can easily do yourself. This review highlights some of the features of this DVD player, as well as provides instructions on how to make it Region Free (pay special attention to Format Support section). So, read on...

Let me just start by saying that if this DVD player was anything over $100, even $80, then I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. But it's definitely worth $50 that I spent on it. I bought it on sale at CompUSA. I believe Walmart is the cheapest place now, where you can buy it for just under $60. But back to this player. After using it for over 2 months, and having it compare to my other three DVD players (Sampo, Cyberhome, and Oppo), I have come up with a short list of Pros and Cons. So, without further ado, I give you Philips DVP642:

PROS:
Format Support - This alone probably worth all the "stars". It supports virtually all formats, including Divx. And it DOES support DVD-R's as well, although it's not documented anywhere. MP3's, Picture JPEG's, original DVD's, burned DVD's with AVI's, MPEG's, etc. - I have tried it all, and it handled everything without any problems. Add the NTSC/PAL conversion capabilities to that (simple "7 8 9 OK 0" remote control hack with an open tray will make it "region free"), and you've got yourself one hell of a DVD player. "You have it, we play it" is the slogan of this player, and it is, indeed, true.

Design - I like the nice and sleek design of this DVD player. It's thin, and the nice matte silver color nicely compliments my Sony Wega TV that I connected it to.

Price - Just as I mentioned before, I bought this player for $50. I think it's well worth it, especially if you have a lot of "homemade" DVD's.

To everyone who has problems with watching a DVD - there is a a very simple help: Download Videolan, a small free video player.

Right click on your VOB file and choose "play with VideoLan" and you can watch your DVD VOB files with this player, no matter what the format is.

This is something I've always wondered.
Do they not make many DVD players in the USA that play PAL DVDs?
That's incredible.

Every DVD player in the UK can play NTSC - you just need a compatible TV set, most of which made after 1990 will take the signal with no problem.

I have the NTSC version of this DVD, that has the horizontal lines, and the audio on that is great.

Wow! The reason the original version of Houston had lines is because it was copied from NTSC to PAL using 2 video recorders that were capable of out-putting a PAL60 coversion from NTSC, so what happened is that the player output a semi-PAL conversion (60 fields per second instead of 50 fields per second which is a true PAL signal) and the recorder was therefore able to record the picture, but with the lines.
Had that semi-conversion been copied to PAL again using the same process, the number of lines would have doubled.
It seems weird that Houston has gone from NTSC to PAL and then back to NTSC again!

I'm going to be honest. I have no idea what you just said.

Picture quality is great, now doubt. But the sound...
I only dare to look at it with the old QDA audio overdubbed.
And if you switch between these 2 audio sources, while watching this phantastic new footage, you come to the conclusion, that this new Houston has a horrible sound, in Germany we call it "Scheiße".
Sorry Barbara -:))Die Bilder sind einmalig.

Not far is it hehehe

Some seem to know the direction they want to go but are faffing about.

Others....well......lol

Bob,although the audio was lossy. It was compressed directly from the master transfer so you are ok uncompressing the AC3 to wav for editing etc(there is no conversion only uncompression)..but it must stay wav/pcm after that or you are lossying that particular master.
Keeping it wav/pcm will still mean that it is lossless from the master copy

Why anyone is wasting time on this though after i have said i would be doing it with the soundboard lossless audio is beyond me.
But it sure is a fun read.

All i have to decide is whether or not to go 2 discs way or a Dual Layer.

Are you doing this to accomodate an uncompressed sound file or have you decided to re-encode the video from the source material to higher bitrate?

If you go down the route of a DL disc purely for the audio and NOT an increase in video bitrate, how about making the improved audio available to us seperately so that those of us who know what we're doing can just sync your original video file with the new sound?

Thanks

Mate, you missed MY point.
I'm all for a PCM lossless sound - but unless you own the original tape which was shared here by YV and you intend to make use of 2 discs or a DL disc by improving the bitrate of the picture AS WELL as the sound, you'll be asking everyone to spend another 2 weeks downloading the same picture quality AGAIN just to get a better sound.
My suggestion/request for you to upload the audio seperately is so that(and I quote from my own reply) "for those of us who know what we're doing", can re-author the concert ourselves.
I had no intention of converting the sound to an AC3 - I DO have facilities to both create Dual Layer discs and split a video track if need be without re-encoding. You don't need to do that particular job for me (and I suspect a few others).

My version is 3.5.4.0

It's OK, I can import the DVD files to Tsunami DVD author, and then import the LPCM audio. The problem I'm having now, is that I can't do what Bob suggested with Goldwave...LOL...how do I copy one channel and copy it to the other? By rightclicking, or by clicking on "edit"? Will you up the lossless audio here, once you get it?

I did what Bob suggested with Goldwave, it worked great, and, more importantly, the audio file is half the size of the original file since it is mono. Assuming I did things right. Bob, if you see this, can you confirm please? The original LPCM audio was 1.12 GBs and 1411 kbps, the mono is 573 MBs and 705 kbps, so it should fit nicely on a DVD5. I also doubled the volume so it sounds great.

Thanks to both of you in advance.

Yeah, that's definitely alright! It's essentially the same thing to remove one channel. I just copied one channel over the other, so it was two identical channels. Some DVD software doesn't support mono WAV files, so that's why I suggested the latter way.

It sounds fine on the PC, I will have to test it to see if the audio works on a standalone DVD player.

So erasing one channel is the same as pasting the left over the right? There is no loss of audio at all?

Great, thanks for your help.

I can use the new audio and author a DVD with motion menu since the audio track is half the size now.

But I will wait for the lossless audio, and reduce that to mono, in case I decide to share it later on. TTD is picky, if they found that I had decompressed the AC3 audio to LPCM I think they would pull the torrent.

You get an error by your torrent software, but if you stop the download and restart it should be okay.

I Know But I have a Mac and I'm using Azurus And If I stop the download, when I restart It It checks The Files and it starts Where I Left Off. I played The VIDEO_TS File In DvD Player Will The download continue if I don't play it until It's complete?
