Maybe time travel back to '79 in Budokan would be great too. Almost as easy as removing the compression.
If you only want to mask it then someone trained in masking his/her own incompetence and inferiority is fit for this job.

Thanks for sharing Luca.
It's true that the dynamic range is lost forever with the compression used.
No point in trying to get it back I'm afraid.

Actually, much can be done to curb the effects of compression. Of course you can't restore it to the original sound, but it's far from hopeless.

Just check out the Stark remasters of 4-14-79 and 2-16-81 - they're excellent.

While I dread the copious amount of compression done to these tapes, a new Peach tape is something I still look forward to. Thanks a million BootLuca!!!

Stark's work on the 5-1-75 gig is also another good example.

I am familiar with Stark works and also with the software he used. Har-Bal is very good for audio restoration, especially in the lower spectrum, which is difficult to properly adjust with a regular eq. The harmonic balance algorithm provides semi-automatic results, most useful when you can't decide about frequency, gain or bandwidth.

The compression issue is not solved, but the excellent Stark remasters makes you forget about compression.

Certainly sounds like the man for the job.
Do you reckon he can time travel too......
..... and is he by any chance Stark's alter ego?

here's a WIP of the first 15 minutes of the show.

https://soundcloud.com/user-972037329/queen-live-in-tokyo-19790424

I used clip restoration to reduce the loudness by 5 decibels, speed corrected it, EQ'd to balance the sound out as it was almost all treble, and I synced a blank template version of the WWRY tape at the beginning to make the sound a bit clearer.

It sounds really better now. The original.

Speed corrected to match what, a personal creative interpretation of the correct speed? People say mastering is an art, but don't take it literally.
Posted by aristide1 user not visiting Queenzone.com
on 11/17/2016 9:54:00 AM
Speed corrected using the WWRY tape intro (sourced from Houston 77) as reference. It's only a 1.2% difference. Why would I get creative about that?

Wait "it sounds really better now"? Were you complimenting something I've made??

It's important to have a logic and not act randomly, good for you. But if the result is not good you have to revise the logic. Don't you think it's too fast?
Posted by aristide1 user not visiting Queenzone.com
on 11/17/2016 10:21:00 AM
If this is too fast than DJGreg's remaster of Houston 77 is too fast. Which we know its not. After I speed corrected the audio it synced up near-perfectly with the WWRY tape.

It's not only the speed. The apocalyptic EQ makes things worse.

Seriously.

Why be an armchair critic if you're not going to produce?

Most people can't, but his guy actually can.

So until then, nobody's impressed with the bullying, or even the knowledge. It's useless if isn't put to practical use.
