SM,

Loved hearing about the Freddie fans and how Jim insisted on keeping some of the notes that were left behind at the Garden Lodge wall. That says a lot about how much Freddie meant to him...I hope rereading those notes brought him some comfort. Thanks so much for sharing.

By the way….when you used the expression “flaking out” I wasn’t sure what you meant and had to look it up! I live in the US and would use “flaking out” to mean someone was acting strangely all of a sudden. I always enjoy learning new words and expressions. I had never heard the word “chuffed” before I came to this site.

Many years ago I had a student teacher who was from England. She was attending a local university and was placed in my 3rd grade classroom. One day she was getting the kids ready for a whole-group lesson…standing in front of the class with the kids seated at their desks, she said something to the effect of “Boys and girls, could you please take out your rubbers?” I wanted to burst out laughing. (Of course I didn’t). Not something one typically hears in a elementary Catholic school classroom! :)

@Rainbow61, yes, Thor “sent” me to my very 1st gay bar, a leather bar, Ty’s, in the West Village last month! It feels like eons ago. It was a very memorable night in the Village. My GFs and I had an absolute blast, even though it wasn’t perfectly smooth. BTW, Thor, I got approved by my employer to attend a conference in suburban NJ in June. If my BF can get his time-off request approved, he agrees to join me in NYC, after the conference is over, and accompany me back to Ty’s. Last month, I had ordered a vodka tonic in Freddie’s honor, but I had completely forgotten to raise my glass – I mean, a Ty’s mug – to him. I HAVE to go back to complete the act, but I don’t want to go back as a solo female. I’m ready for the Freddie in NY Tour, Part Deux! I’d like to check out and take photos of the former Anvil, Freddie’s co-op, etc. Of course, Marie’s Crisis is No. 1 on the agenda! What song(s) do you normally request @ Marie’s?

BTW, I’m sorry I ever referred to you as “Thor Bear.” It’s because you’re > 50, tall and have broad shoulders. It’s not about your BMI or chest hair. It was meant in jest and online affection. Also, I dwarf in comparison to you, like how Brian May towers over the late Jer Bulsara in photos. I hope I’m taller than Mrs. Bulsara, but I have a feeling we’re the same height. I may have to resume daily calcium supplements.

@SM, please don't hold back. We enjoy reading about your times @ Garden Lodge and your acquaintance w/Jim.

@CHEVYMAN, I’m sorry to learn of your PTSD. I’ve encountered so many people who have PTSD, from combat, MVAs, assault, etc. I hope it resolves eventually and that you achieve inner peace.

@Freddienotfreddy and katydyd5, have you ever seen the 1992 tribute concert to Freddie Mercury @ Wembley? I’ve seen it on YouTube. Freddie finally got his gospel choir – on stage. It’s too bad the late Aretha Franklin never performed @ the tribute. I bet Freddie would’ve loved it. I bet SHE would’ve been honored. I wonder if she was even invited to participate? I honestly believe that if he remained alive today, Freddie and Aretha would’ve eventually paired up for a collaboration. He certainly left a lot to the imagination as to where his artistry would’ve taken him in the past 27 years.

Well, good night/day, fellow insomniacs. It’s almost 2:30 AM, EST, and I have to work tomorrow - today. QZ is my secret, late-night/early AM pleasure!

Freddienotfreddy:. l absolutely agree that Oscar certainly did very well for himself when Freddie adopted him, and I know that Freddie made certain that all of his cats had the best possible life, and loved them all dearly, I was just saying, if anybody wanted to take my _MY_ baby (my Mitzy Munchkin) away from me, they're in for a heck of a fight! :-)

I was being partially flippant, but Tony Bastin cannot have been nearly devoted enough to this beautiful red tabby gentleman.

Can you tell I'm besotted by cats? Had them all my life.

Little Freddie (my figuarts figure) is scheduled to arrive today! I feel like an expectant mother! :-)

Have a good day, peeps!

Emdee hi yes I was referring to that back story . It's nice to know that it is likely genuine

Thank you Shaun for replying , I'm really grateful. It's lovely to hear how he kept some of the cards from fans . He feel he really appreciated them . I wish more people knew how wonderfully humble and kind he was .

Shaun where in the UK are you ?

Love the ,rubber, story . We call them erasers now , rubber is what we called them years ago as obviously rubber is something else entirely these days lol.

I wish I could flake out today as im.so tired

I struggle to.sleep and I use something over the counter called sominex. The use of cannabis is something constantly in the press here as it is proven to help with certain conditions. It can only be bought in certain forms here in liquid I believe .

Jo T,

I've only seen parts of the tribute concert, not really sure why I have never watched it in it's entirety. The part I have seen is George Michael performing Somebody To Love. I feel he did a great job with it.

It's funny you that you wonder if Aretha Franklin was asked to perform. In Jim's book he also questions why/if certain performers that Freddie admired or was close with weren't invited (to his knowledge) to perform.

Jo T,

I meant to add that while I feel George Michael did a good job, Aretha Franklin performing Somebody To Love with a full choir would have phenomenal!

FreddieDarling, I love that Freddie figure! You are a lucky lady.

I like knowing that Jim saved the cards too. Freddie meant so much to so many.

I've seen bits and pieces of the Tribute Concert. For whatever reason I can't bring myself to watch the whole thing. I could be way off on this, but wasn't Aretha afraid to fly?

Hi Thor/Lee,

I know you have been busy this week with flood Thor, believe it or not I am also in the process of drying out our house after we discovered a small leak which once we'd find out about had turned into a LARGE leak, not any fun as you will know.

I had an earlier question which you may have missed due to the issues you have had however I would be interested in knowing what you think, here goes:

"I have just been watching the 'epic' Flash Gordon movie, truth be told I only watch it for the amazing soundtrack. It did get me thinking though back to your time with Freddie as I recall a story that Freddie would have been keen on Sam Jones (i.e. Flash Gordon) however he was too shy to do anything about it. Did he ever mention him to you guys? From the earlier photos of yourself in the early 80's Thor I would say that you and Sam Jones were quite similar so it wouldn't surprise me if Freddie was attracted to him."

I cannot wait for the book and for further news on it, Christmas will be coming early when it arrives!!!

All the best from Bonny Scotland (Lee, did you find out anything more on your Scottish heritage?)

Wow... I didn't know about medical marijuana being practiced in the USA. I've got a bit of a cultural shock right now:)

I wanted to add about John Murphy rumours, I don't think people entirely make this up. My understanding is, they base it on Paul Prenter's interview. I wanted to read it for myself once, to see what was it exactly that Paul said. I couldn't find it on the internet, the only variant of it was in the form of newspaper photos listed on some site (eBay or something like that). So I had to basically read it with a magnifying glass. I typed it, you can read the result here (sorry if I read something wrong, the letters are too small and blurry):

https://4imaroza.livejournal.com/1101.html

It is Paul who mentions that John Murphy visited Freddie in Garden Lodge in 1986 (and I'm not sure if he means John was visiting alone):

"John was at Freddie's home in London a few weeks before his death and had to rush back because his lover, who also had AIDS, had taken a turn for the worse."

Katydyd5: Yes, I've read Aretha Franklin developed a fear of flying sometime in the '80's. That's probably the reason why she didn't attend the Tribute concert. I'd think she would be one of the first persons to be invited.

Oh lord. Freddieandjimforever is back on Instagram as jimandfreddieforever. Fingers crossed she plays it differently this time. I'm fine with her posting all she likes but let's hope she's done with the lying and strange behavior.

Hi

Thor I hope your plumbing issues are in the way to being solved and cleared up now. Water can be a terrible foe!

Yes, I feel very lucky to have my Little Freddie (though he DID set me back a pretty penny!)

He settled in well. As I have some time off work I've been able to show him around and introduce him to Big Freddie (the singing one) and Medium Freddie (my custom made boy) and Funko Freddie! He's very impressed by my good taste! :-)

Doughnut, you asked what he sung to me : He sang "Somebody to Love" and I said "Darling, you've FOUND somebody to love you! _I_ love you! (Me and half of the world :-} .......) He sat on my lap this afternoon and watched Midsomer Murder, though he did get fidgety! He's such a hyperactive boy! LOL

Enough of this silliness!

Suffice to say I'm very, very chuffed with him and every single penny feels well spent!

Hope you all had a good Thursday.

TTFN from FD and LF!

Awww Freddie is going to live being with you Freddiedarling, he is pretty awsome as is the cross stitch . Does he have different heads ?

Re the tribute concert , I can't bear to watch it although I've seen George Michael and he sung somebody to love amazing . George was pretty fantastic. Why do we loose the good ones so young .

Russialand that is,the famous Paul printer betrayal of Freddie . Ive not seen what it consisted of before and boy he certainly sold Freddie out ! Awful.

Thor Paul prenter claims Freddie slept with John once and then they remained friends

I wonder if Freddie did ring Paul and say how scared of aids he was ? They were friends then so it's possible and Freddie surely would have been worried seeing as aids was getting a,lot of coverage by then and the life he lived . When you see it all in print like that it sounds awful. Poor Freddie and Jim as he was outed in that article , according to his book .
