One thing that's lacking in all forms of music today is a good guitar solo.
There were a number of good Queen songs without one...

On a "Metallica" scale where a song with no solo was a... well Saint Anger anyone...

Let's have a look at how was a guitar solo in Queens music so essential and during the heights of their pop journey in the 80s, youd have to say that Brian and Queen was in a league of their own by involving a substantial solo into a very pop song. Kind of Magic and Gaga and a out of nowhere guitar solo in the likes of Dont stop me now. Then you have songs where the whole song is just one big solo likes of March of the black Queen

Solos have dropped out of popular music or A&R has stopped supporting/promoting bands that do solo.

In the late 90's-00's Tom Morello kept them in prominence but either owing to cultural shifts in popular music or a lack of talent you're more likely to hear that sort of stuff watered down but in country-rap pop rock music now

They're still there in driven hard rock, metal etc depending on the genre.
not much of an indie music scene out here save for balladeers and such and piano singers and party bands and those don't tend to single anyone out unless they're doing covers.

And these days although you can marvel at someone's proficiency in playing such solos, They rarely evince anything interesting on their own. Lots of second generation copy cat stuff.

Can't say I've been to many punk shows so i couldn't tell you about that. But in a very limited scope pertaining to American/British pop music, it's not something that's popular right now

Hard Rock and Metal is incomplete without a guitar solo. They are intrinsic to genre.

I suppose they finished around the RHCP' naughties era, I think those were the last years you could tell some songs had a solo which served some purpose. In Queen's heyday, they were important and often great no doubt; in terms of their QAL live incarnation, a particular one is still key in terms of keeping your personal hygiene intact.
