Added on 14-Sep-2013

Today would have been Freddie's 67th birthday and we are celebrating by throwing a party across the globe with the annual Mercury Phoenix Trust initiative Freddie For A Day!

Fans throughout the world are helping raising funds in our fight against HIV/AIDS by donning the Freddie moustache, parading around at work in one of his instantly recognisable costumes, throwing their own parties or simply raising a glass to him and donating to the charity. Simply put, having fun in Freddie's name for a great cause.

For 2013, actor, comedian and dedicated Queen and Freddie fan Matt Lucas, kindly recorded a lovely piece to camera relaying his fondness of our birthday boy and the extent to which we still need to fight HIV/AIDS. Click here to watch his message on behalf of the MPT.

This year we have teamed up with Hard Rock Cafe, who have worked with us in arranging official Freddie For A Day parties right across Europe and beyond. All manner of things have been planned from Freddie cocktails, raffles, tribute bands, special menus, staff dressed as Freddie and special photo boards in the restaurants...and all of this soundtracked by, you guessed it, Queen. 2013 also sees the return of the Freddie Angry Bird and our friends at Rovio. This year they have gone one better and extended their support to Freddie actually appearing in the game itself. The Freddie For A Day tournament on Angry Birds Friends will be available to play on Facebook or mobile between September 2nd and 8th. For full details and to get playing click here!

Our friendships have also expanded to the fashion world. Queen fan and award winning British fashion designer Julien McDonald has produced a unique Freddie T-shirt that is exclusive to the Queen Store and limited to just 300!

Tonight, there will be a gala event in London at Queen AIDS Benefit in aid of the Mercury Phoenix Trust and to celebrate Freddie's birthday. Roger Daltry from The Who, Spice Girl Melanie C, Alfie Boe and many others will be performing in memory of Freddie. Images and reports of the night will be forthcoming.

Once again, thank you all for your support this year, without your passion, drive and enthusiasm and clear love of Freddie, we would not be able to do this.

Happy Birthday Freddie.
